About My Teaching

I am on the Voice Faculty of Colorado College, and have been on the voice faculties of The Hartt School (Music Theatre Department, 2018-2021) Dickinson College (2008-2019) and Susquehanna University (2011-2015). I have maintained a private studio since 2007.

In my private teaching, I work with singers of all levels, but especially those interested in a professional career in opera, musical theatre, recital, oratorio, and/or contemporary music. I enjoy working with singers of all ages. In addition to my college students and young professionals, I had a large voice studio of high school-aged singers and a few dedicated amateurs in Pennsylvania for 10 years. Many of my former high school students are enjoying professional careers today.

In my technical work with students, I emphasize vocal health, ease of breath flow, clear phonation, “mixed” registration, constructive resonance, and relaxed and coordinated articulation. I work with students on interpretation and style as well, but that is a secondary concern to the technical work.

I have taught courses and lectured on many subjects related to my applied teaching, including the anatomy and physiology of the larynx, vocal health, acting for singers, foreign language diction, English diction, art song for singers, and sports psychology.

I have a Masters in Music degree in Opera Performance from the Yale School of Music and a Bachelors in Music in Opera Performance from The Hartt School of Music. I was General Director of Gold Rush Productions, Inc. in Skagway, AK from 2010-2019.
